The White Bull is located in the centre of the historic village of Ribchester a former Roman settlement on the original Watling Street now home to a busy community and lots of attractions for visitors to the beautiful Ribble Valley with its fantastic scenery, great walks and lots of things to do.

The White Bull is an iconic 1707 built listed property located in the old centre of Ribchester.

Situated opposite original weavers cottages and walking distance from the numerous Roman attractions, The historic Church, the banks of the River Ribble and Ribble Way walk.  The Roman Bath House is directly over the wall in our lovely garden area.  There is lots of parking either opposite or within easy walking distance.

The building is possibly one of the most photographed pubs in Britain with its unusual ‘White Bull’ wooden statue above the ‘Pillared’ front added to the building when it was originally used as a court room with holding cell to deal with the local miscreants! The pillars were said to have been found in the river and are said to be Roman in origin and had been part of ‘The temple of Minerva’ a place of worship in Roman times.

In 2019, The White Bull underwent a complete refurbishment with a primary goal of restoring all its original features. The aim was to offer a quintessential British village pub experience, catering to both the local community and visitors, featuring fresh, high-quality food menus and an extensive range of drinks.

There are also 3 beautifully appointed double bedrooms en suite with a private entrance for guests.

So delicious that we wanted to lick our plates An excellent gem, hidden in Ribchester. The restaurant was busy, the service great, the food was really delicious. I would highly recommend this place. The only problem was an extremely rude customer, who was giving the staff a hard time, for having the audacity to serve them efficiently. He told the entire restaurant how he wanted a 15 minute break between starter and main course. The staff handled him with great courtesy.
Gem of a find. On a short 3 day break, we came across this old, characterful and recently refurbished pub in Ribchester and enjoyed a drink and a chat to the locals. We enjoyed the warmth of the welcome and the overall ambience so much, we decided to book the restaurant for the following evening. Again we spent a very enjoyable time and highly recommend the food offering from the extensive but reasonably priced menu. Thank you particularly to Ginette and Julie for your friendliness and hospitality. We hope that we will one day return and visit again and have no hesitation in recommending this establishment to anyone visiting this beautiful part of the Ribble valley.

Good Friday Family Lunch The White Bull was recommended to us and they did not disappoint!! We chose here for a Friday lunch after a family walk with our dogs and they were so friendly and accommodating. We book prior and gave our food orders and from sitting down with our drinks, the food was out within 10 minutes. The food was delicious, all 11 of us really enjoyed it. We will definitely be returning!
Absolutely fabulous! Our daughter bought us a voucher for Xmas, so we visited the white bull for the first time today. It was quiet when we arrived which gave us time to talk to our lovely hostess Jeanette. We both ordered the pheasant & bacon pin wheel which came with piccalilli, really delicious. We followed up with the rabbit stew which was sensational, one of the best dishes we've had in years ( it was a tad too salty). Will spread the word to friends & family about this great eating place, with a few unique dishes we haven't come across before.

Great welcome and wonderful food Very friendly welcome from all staff Great range of food on menu and very tasty Would definitely go again and recommend highly Thank you 🌻
Perfect Excellent all round. Great friendly service and 4 delicious starters and main meals. It was a Mother’s Day menu, the mushroom starter and lamb shank main I chose couldn’t be faulted. A favourite pub of mine on and off over the years and it’s definitely right back up there at the top again. Will be back soon. Thanks for a lovely meal.

Sandwich Heaven I had the steak and blue cheese sandwich, it came with a side salad, coleslaw and hand cut crisp for £10. Great value and the setting and staff were wonderful. Can’t wait to come back for their famous Sunday Dinner

Great pub food Went with my Mum & my brother. New manager, new menus, and such a new wine supplier they hadn’t got their wine list printed yet. Exceptionally good pub grub! We all had a pheasant & bacon pinwheel - like a roulade - in puff pastry as a starter which came with a sharp and crunchy piccalilli and hit the spot perfectly. I had a very good beef & ale pie, followed by Eton mess and my brother enjoyed his rabbit stew. A couple of glasses of Pendleside and a nice bottle of Malbec washed it all down. Friendly service. Full dining room. Good Saturday evening buzz. Loved it!

Don't miss this for food Food stunning, atmosphere great, and staff amazing - we were staying nearby and came for food first night - it was so good we came back the next night too - we were only here for two nights and after the food and service the first night, it was a no trainer to return. Pie, lamb shank, chicken gyros, sticky pork tenderloin and stroganoff all 100% recommended

Good. Visited today with Mim and Dad and a couple of our friends. Waited quite a while before a drinks order were taken and menus provided. When the Sunday beef roasts arrived they were all very good. We then had the rolly polly pudding and STP also very nice too. We then had to ask for the bill 3 times. So overall a 4 out of 5 as I am afraid the service let us down a little but well done to the chef/s for the food. We will be back
