The White Bull is located in the centre of the historic village of Ribchester a former Roman settlement on the original Watling Street now home to a busy community and lots of attractions for visitors to the beautiful Ribble Valley with its fantastic scenery, great walks and lots of things to do.

The White Bull is an iconic 1707 built listed property located in the old centre of Ribchester.

Situated opposite original weavers cottages and walking distance from the numerous Roman attractions, The historic Church, the banks of the River Ribble and Ribble Way walk.  The Roman Bath House is directly over the wall in our lovely garden area.  There is lots of parking either opposite or within easy walking distance.

The building is possibly one of the most photographed pubs in Britain with its unusual ‘White Bull’ wooden statue above the ‘Pillared’ front added to the building when it was originally used as a court room with holding cell to deal with the local miscreants! The pillars were said to have been found in the river and are said to be Roman in origin and had been part of ‘The temple of Minerva’ a place of worship in Roman times.

In 2019, The White Bull underwent a complete refurbishment with a primary goal of restoring all its original features. The aim was to offer a quintessential British village pub experience, catering to both the local community and visitors, featuring fresh, high-quality food menus and an extensive range of drinks.

There are also 3 beautifully appointed double bedrooms en suite with a private entrance for guests.

A fabulous friendly establishment Had lunch there today with my Dad. Beer and food absolutely superb. Staff and service absolutely first class. So friendly and helpful. A lovely pub with atmosphere we'd both recommend. We're sorry we didn't leave a tip, we each thought the other had done so due a confused conversation as we got ready to leave. We'll put this right next time!
Sunday lunch at its best Good quality food, beautifully presented. Great atmosphere Attentive staff. Great to see Julie at the helm. Will be back soon
Absolutely fantastic 😊 Brilliant customer service, felt very welcome and it was a fantastic atmosphere to spend a lovely Sunday afternoon with the family😁 We will definitely be returning to The White Bull 🐂
Recommended Unplanned call in for tea on a sunny Saturday. Sitting out in beer garden was lovely. We shared 4 starters, as a sort of tapas meal. The food was lovely, my partner had a problem with one dish that was dealt with really well. The choices were a little different to the normal fare and we appreciated that. Service was very good and the price reasonable. Definitely going back.
Great food, beer, location and welcome. There’s something just a little bit special about the White Bull at Ribchester. Ribchester is charming village, full of Roman history with the pub nestled right in the centre. A traditional pub that looks great from the outside and with the warm welcome and great food you’d hope for on the inside. The menu is varied and good value, with generous portions. The food is well considered without being over engineered, and is just a good separation from the normal endless list of burgers and steaks offered in many places. The beer and wine is good too. The sun was out when we visited which meant the beer garden was a great place to start the evening.
Enjoyable, tasty lunch We arrived at 1,45pm for lunch after visiting Roman ruins and Early churches in Ribchester . We ere greeted quickly and taken to a pleasant dining room. The staff were very pleasant , we didn’t have to wait long , the menu for main courses was interesting and varied , the food excellent ( just a bit pricey) -

A hidden gem After spending a lovely Saturday evening in The White Bull we decided to book in for Sunday lunch and have to say we it was one of the best we have ever had, the pub was busy with a lovely atmosphere and the customer service from the staff was exceptional nothing was too much trouble. The food was reasonably priced, and the locally sourced produce made this Sunday lunch worth travelling for. It was lovely to be presented with homemade food instead of the usual microwave mass produced dinners. The location of The White Bull is magical with some lovely walks and historical sites on its doorstep. We will definitely be back.

Lovely lunch Lovely lunch. We were travelling and just called in. My husband had the Steak Pie and I had the Cheese & Onion Pie.... so scrumptious! Home cooked. We would definitely do a diversion to go there again. Staff were welcoming and customers in bar were friendly and chatty. As a bonus, If you go into the garden you can see the Roman baths!
Happy customers of The White Bull, Ribchester. Really one of the best pub meals we've had. Helpful, welcoming staff, generous portions of beautifully cooked food at a reasonable price. Highly recommended.
